Steel Xplosion first originated in 1981 in Laventille, Trinidad & Tobago, with Freddy Harris, II (father of Freddy Harris, III) being the founder.  It began as a family band that gigged throughout Trinidad and eventually moved to the USA. 

Freddy Harris, II who has been the arranger of Sesame Flyers Int. for at least a decade decided to bring Steel Xplosion, now Steel X-Plosion USA, back to life in 2013.  Although Steel Xplosion USA received opposition in competing in 2013 Panorama, they continued to push forward and began contending from the 2014 Panorama.  With the merger of Sesame Flyers Int. and arranger Freddy Harris, III - Steel Xplosion USA/Sesame Flyers Int. was the band to look out for.

Freddy Harris, III has been arranging over the past decade and has performed worldwide for Prime Ministers and with top recording artists such as Melonie Fiona and The Gap Band.   Freddy Harris, III also has his BS degree in Music with a specialization in Jazz studies.  He has won the world solo competition in Trinidad and Tobago in past years and was definitely a crowd favorite at Lincoln Center’s Pan Jazz festival.  He is currently one of the ambassadors of the ePan and continues to teach and groom the inner city youth in the art and musicianship of Steel Pan playing.
