Pan Is Beautiful XI to be held in
November 2008
Participants
can collect their Registration Forms, Rules &
Regulations, Scores and Music for all
categories, from Pan Trinbago Regional Offices
in the North, South/Central, East and Tobago -
for the upcoming Pan Is Beautiful festival..
Closing
date for all entries is Friday 15th
August 2008.
The three (3)
test pieces in this year’s Festival have been
taken from the vast repertoire of Dr. Slinger
Francisco aka The Mighty Sparrow. They are
“Document Pan” (Orchestra), “Education”
(Ensemble) and “Rose” (Single Pan Band).
As in the
past, the Festival is divided into Minor and
Orchestra Categories. The former comprises
Soloists, Duets, Quartets, Ensembles and Single
Pan Band classes.
Competition
dates for the Minor categories are from November
01st to14th 2008, while
Orchestras will be from November 15th
to 29th 2008 at venues to be
announced. The last Pan Is Beautiful
edition took place in 2004 as a prelude to the
2005 World Steelband Music Festival.
The winners of
that music festival were
Exodus who, along with TCL Group Skiffle
Bunch, T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra and
Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille,
represented Trinidad & Tobago at Madison Square
Garden, New York, USA on June 19th
2005.
In 1962, the biennial Steelband Music Festival
began as an independent entity. Staged as such,
the Festival gave steelpan players an
opportunity to display the versatility of the
instrument which attracted tremendous
international attention.
