Veteran calypsonian “Singing Sandra” (Sandra Des Vignes-Millington) has passed

When Steel Talks extends condolences to family and friends

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. -  When Steel Talks extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of “Singing Sandra” (Sandra Des Vignes-Millington).

Sandra won the 1999 Calypso Crown with “Song for Healing” and “Voices from the Ghetto.” She became part of history when Sanelle Dempster won the Road March title the same year. It was the first time in the history of calypso competition that both titles were won by female singers. She again won the Calypso Crown in 2003 with “For Whom the Bells Toll?” and “Ancient Rhythms.”

CYP (Caribbean Youth Panoramics) Steel Orchestra performed “Ancient Rhythms” as their tune of choice in the 2003 New York Panorama, as arranged by Joseph “Franklyn” Gerald.  “Singing Sandra” joined the band on stage at the back of the Brooklyn Museum for the entirety of the performance.
