Grenada, W.I. - Grenada’s Republic Bank Angel Harps’ music organization is ready for the upcoming Junior Panorama on Saturday, July 25th at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, says executive member David Seales. Joining six other bands, the Angel Harps Junior Steel Orchestra will be playing “Set the Mood” by Shortpree, arranged by Presley Andrew and Chard Lewis. Co-captained by Danielle Whiny and Garon Ross, the band will feature approximately ninety-eight players with Kerry Francis on drums. They take the stage in position three.
Two weeks later on August 8th the annual National Panorama will see the senior Angel Harps Steel Orchestra performing Mr. Gold’N’s “Down in Greenz” arranged by Gerry Tamar and Orlando Thomas. It is Tamar’s first time as arranger for the Angel Harps in the Panorama. Dudley Dickson and Terrence Sheppard are the tuners for the steel orchestra, which will take the stage with around seventy-five players. Leroy “Malu” Stephens is the captain.
An encouraging development for this Panorama season, is that under the umbrella of the Grenada Steelband Association’s (GSA) newly-elected executive “Pan players will have more to celebrate this year with an increase in prize money for the 2026 Panorama competition.”
Currently underway is the showcasing of the art form via Pan Yard Vybz: the road to Panorama. “This initiative invites the public into pan yards to experience rehearsals, meet the players, interact...and witness the hard work that takes place long before Panorama night” explained Rockell George, GSA’s Public Relations Officer.
There is more in the works following that event as the GSA “has developed a six-month programme designed to keep the sound of steelpan alive beyond the Panorama season.” It includes a series of promotional activities which includes taking performances and programmes into every parish in Grenada. Also planned is a steelband festival in November.
For the August 8th National Panorama, eight bands are currently expected to be in competition.
