Pan Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago

A new organization seeking to enhance the social welfare of pannists and the youth of T&T has been formed. The Pan Players Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the brainchild of Bevon “Bellies” Phillips, a veteran pannist of 30 years and member of Phase II Pan Groove, held it’s inaugural meeting on March 6th 2004.

With the motto “Development through co-operation”, the focus of the group is to raise the academic value of pannists by setting up a Pan Players Academy. Subjects to be taught at the academy include: English, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, Pan History, Music Literacy, Management and Pan Tuning. Membership in the P.P.A. is open to nationals of Trinidad and Tobago living at home or abroad.

According to Bellies, “While Pan Trinbago focuses primarily on Steelband administration and organizing competitions, this new body will focus on the social welfare of the panman. We intend to set up a Hall of Fame of panmen and masmen, past and present. Also we plan assist panmen in getting insurance coverage, acquire legal representation and things like that. ”
