Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The South Central Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival Association hosts its 2024 Champions in Concert event on April 27 at SAPA [Southern Academy for the Performing Arts], San Fernando at 6 p.m.

Those due to perform include school-level performers namely Golden Hands Junior Steel Orchestra, Naparima Girls School choir, The Trebles, and the Prescon choir comprising Presentation College and St Joseph's Convent both in San Fernando, plus many individual vocalists.

Nevis: Culturama 50 is all set to launch with huge celebrations tomorrow

The Culturama 50 will be held from July 25 to August 6 with preliminary activities beginning as early as July 6.

St. Kitts and Nevis, W.I. - The Nevis Tourism Authority is all set to launch the Nevis Culturama Festival 2024, aka Culturama 50, on Friday, April 26, with a mini parade through Charlestown at 5 p.m. The parade will be followed by a gathering at the Charlestown Waterfront at 6 p.m.

....The grand launch event will feature several live performances by the Odisi Band, Small Axe Band, Sugar Hill String Band, Honey Bees String Band, Rhythms of the Arts Dance Ensemble, and DJ Zimba. There will also be various cultural performances, a medley of Kaiso and Soca performances, and an NCD Steel Orchestra.

Metaverse - Facebook got it wrong. About three years ago without warning or reason all WST (When Steel Talks) steelpan-related accounts fell out of favor with the social media giant Facebook now known as Meta and its aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers, this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have been. However, it was annoying to have people seeking critical steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI (artificial intelligence).

Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’ is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter in the doodle archives.

....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while Etienne Charles is the composer of the accompanying music performed by the legendary steelpan icon Len “Boogsie” Sharpe.
