Brooklyn, New York, USA - The Brooklyn-based
Caribbean cultural group Tropicalfete, Inc., said on Tuesday that Trinidadian
steelpan virtuoso and cultural ambassador Joshua Regrello recently visited its
headquarters on New York Avenue coaching the group’s Steel Ensemble on proper
playing techniques.
....Regrello said, “I was honestly very impressed with the kids at Tropicalfete.
They showed real talent and potential on the steelpan, and it was inspiring
to see their passion for the instrument.
....Alton Aimable, Tropicalfete Inc.’s St. Lucian-born founder and president,
said his organization “passionately ensures Caribbean culture is preserved and
has a prominent place globally.

The Sounds of NYU Steel directed by Dr. Kendall K. Williams
New Staging, New Chapter, New Path Forward

New York, USA - Before the scorching
hot days of summer, was the cool and inviting springtime which was the
backdrop for NYU (New York University) Steel’s annual spring music
presentation. Just as spring signaled newness, there was much that was new
this year for this specific steel orchestra in concert. The state-of-the-art
Iris Cantor Theatre at NYU’s John A. Paulson Center was the new venue for
the performance on this evening. And Dr. Kendall K. Williams now helms the
program as its new director; he is also an NYU alumnus.

Saint Lucia National Panorama 2025 Results - Pantime Steel Orchestra Returns

Saint Lucia, W.I. - Periodical downpours
of rain on Sunday July 13 did not stop the sounds of steel orchestras as they
fervently served up respective music salvos. After all, it was the country’s
annual national steelband music Panorama competition amid the 2025 Lucian Carnival
season.
....Up for the taking was the title, championship trophy and prize purse
of EC $60,000.00 (circa US $22,200.00). At the end of the music extravaganza,
last year’s winner Babonneau Steel Orchestra had to make way for the new 2025
champion Pantime Steel Orchestra as they returned to the top.

Pandemonium at Barbados Crop Over 2025 - Live Stream
Bridgetown, Barbados, W.I. - Several steelbands
are part of Pandemonium, on Sunday July 13 from 2:00 p.m. Venue is the National
Botanical Gardens in Codrington, St. Michael.
Those scheduled to appear include Barbados National Youth Steel Orchestra,
Renegades Youth Steel Orchestra (Trinidad), and Barbados All Stars Steel Orchestra.
Top Bajan artists and musicians will also be live on stage. The Mobile Pan Bus
and Grand Pan finale will unfold ‘under the stars.’

Facebook got it wrong - Meta World and WST & SteelPan Are Friends Again
Facebook “Likes” sends PanOnTheNet Apology - “We got it
wrong”
Metaverse - Facebook got it wrong. About
three years ago without warning or reason all WST (When Steel Talks) steelpan-related
accounts fell out of favor with the social media giant Facebook now known as
Meta and its aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers, this ‘tag’ was
not incurable or as problematic as it could have been. However, it was annoying
to have people seeking critical steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI
(artificial intelligence).

Doodle of steelpan instrument ‘live’ on Google’s web site
Global - On Tuesday July 26, 2022 the
steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the
site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’
is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to
celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers,
and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the
world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter
in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while
Etienne Charles is the composer of the accompanying music performed by the
legendary steelpan icon
Len “Boogsie” Sharpe.
