Phase II Dilemma
Dear Sirs,
This sort of thing is typical of the short-sightedness of the
Trinidad business community today. In their quest for
financial gain, all other aspects of the local community must in
their eyes, take a back seat.
I long for a time, when a politician, business man or some other
prominent leader can take the stand that the national instrument and
local music take priority over all else and can command a place in
the development of society alongside Education and Health.
I cannot believe that the building of high rise edifices really
takes priority over a local art form. Even if this is the case, the
ill-timed decision to withdraw sponsorship at the high point of the
season from last year's champions smacks of petulance borrowed from
Cinderella's ugly sisters.
Pan Trinbago should now make plans to review the integrity of
sponsorship as a whole, and in particular the do's and don'ts of
reasonable expectations of a benevolent corporation or organization
and the recipients of their support.
Strong arm tactics must be discouraged at all costs.
Where would Reggae be today if the Jamaican government took the
attitude of their counterparts in Trinidad. The answer? Just where
SOCA and Calypso is today.
Respectfully yours
Randi
