On The Move
|
|
2004 has been a very busy year
for the Binghamton
New York High School Steel Drum Band since the release of their debut
CD, JUICE BLENDERS.
The
CD features original music written by members of the steel band
and director Joel Smales. Recently
the band also
performed at the Percussive
Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Nashville. They
were one of only four music ensembles invited to the event.
In
addition, the Binghamton steel drum band performed for the Bands of
America National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis in February of this
year, and then after that for the Music Educators National Conference (MENC)
in Minneapolis in April.
The band has also been invited to perform a
concert tour of China. Students in grades 9-12 may audition to
participate in the ensemble.
A concert trip to Trinidad is being plannedduring 2004-2005.
The
Binghamton steel ensemble
has also celebrated the world premiere of new music written especially
for the band by Joel Smales, Director of Bands. Arrangements
were by Cayenna Ponchionne. Liam Teague was the guest soloist. |
