The Cornell Steel Bands

08-09-05

The first Cornell Steel Band was formed by director James Armstrong in 2001. Since that time the program has expanded to two steel bands: "The Cornell Steel Band" and the "Boogie Band." Each group's repertoire ranges from traditional island folk tunes to panorama style compositions and beyond. Instrumentation includes the standard steel pan orchestra and a complete "engine room." Several performances are given both on and off campus during the academic year. The Cornell Steel Bands sustain a reputation of “Ivy League” excellence while being among the most exciting performance groups on campus and throughout the Central New York region.
