Pan in the 21st Century - North Bands face Judges in Qualifying Round
Seven (7) bands in the South/Central region will face the panel
comprising Jeanette Johnson, Christine Moasaheb, Sherry Ann Saunders and
Clement Danclair tonight as judging for TSTT Pan in the 21st Century
continues at the respective panyards.
Starting the evening’s itinerary is Starland of Point Fortin. Next stop
will be Tornadoes also of Point Fortin. Then the judges’ cavalcade will
proceed to Petrotrin Deltones, San City, Pan Elders and TCL Group
Skiffle Bunch with NLCB Fonclaire bringing up the rear.
Tomorrow Tuesday and Wednesday have been set aside for North bands.
Playing first on Tuesday evening is Tokyo. They will be followed by the
defending champions WITCO Desperadoes with Court’s Sound Specialists of
Laventille, Highlanders, Blue Diamonds, Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars,
bp Renegades and Pandemonium.
Wednesday’s program will see Excellent Stores Silver Stars, BWIA
Invaders, PCS Starlift, Panatics and HCL Valley Harps in that order.
Reigning Panorama winners Phase 11 Pan Groove has decided to sit this
one out. (Complete list of bands attached)
For the competition, participants are required to play songs from the
contemporary world beat repertoire. Results in this category will be
announced on Thursday morning.
Draw for playing positions in both TSTT Pan in 21st Century and Down Memory Lane Finals take place at NCC TV, Lady Young Road, Morvant on Friday 28th April 2006 at 10:30 am. Each of finalists in both the Single Pan Bands and Conventional Bands categories is asked to send a representative.
“The Art of Pan” is the theme chosen for this year’s event sponsored by TSTT. Grand Stand tickets go on sale at major outlets from Wednesday 26th April. Prices of admission are Box - $150. – Box. Reserved - $100, General Admission - $60. and North Stand Area - $40
Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz tops Pan Down Memory Lane Prelimins
Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz
playing a Pelham Goddard arrangement of “Walk on By” scored the most
points in the Preliminary round of TSTT Pan Down Memory Lane
competition.
Playboyz amassed a total of 260 points, seven (points) more than second
placed Ice Water Ensemble 253. Harlem Syncopators and Arima Marsicans
tied for third spot with 252 points. Three time winner and defending
Single Pan Band champion La Horquetta Pan Groove placed fifth.
At the end of the exercise which took place over a period of four days,
13 Single Pan Bands will proceed to the Grand Finals, at the Queen’s
Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday 29th April, 2006.
Judges in this category were Dr. Jeannie Remy, Langford Madray, Lorna
Conyette and Roger Sardinah.
