Mr. Campbell is an ‘ambassador’ for Trinidad and Tobago; he has toured and performed on local and international stages as far as Japan, and New York to name but two. A highlight of Mr. Campbell’s musical journey was being an elite member of the National Steel Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago (fondly called NSO) and also going on to be an asset to the now-National Steel Symphony Orchestra, where he was among a selected few to play the Genesis ‘G’ Pan.
Apart from performing with groups, or as a solo artiste, Mr. Campbell is versatile in drums, singing, and can play every pan within the steel pan orchestra. As a music arranger he has worked with quite a number of steelbands on both isles of Trinidad & Tobago, as he often leads these groups to the finals of various competitions. He utilizes his gift of music to create and orchestrate splendorous, sweet, soothing music and points to the successes he had in the National Panorama competitions with Our Boys Steel Orchestra, as they are reigning THA (Tobago House of Assembly) Champions 2015 and 2016, and Alpha Pan Pioneers, also champions in the Music Festival just concluded in May 2016.
There is no doubt that Mr. Campbell has a deep passion and love for the arts, especially with respect to the National Instrument. Nevertheless, with all his successes, accomplishments and achievements, he remains humble and always driven. With his wealth of knowledge and vast experience accumulated over a number of years, it became unquestionable and clear-cut that he shares, and enlightens people (especially the youths) with - his gift, for he has mentored in pan camps before.
He firmly believes that music can touch and have a great positive impact on an individual. In addition, he wishes to show how the steel pan can be useful to relieve stress, keep the culture alive and be a career opportunity for those who aspire to be a professional musician. Mr. Anslem Campbell truly does embody William Shakespeare’s famous quotes: “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to silent” and “If music be the food of love, play on”….
