Andrius Edwide is one of the key personnel along with the other leaders of St. Lucia’s Laborie Pan Project. It is more than a steelband; rather, it is a community initiative. Edwide is the band’s musical director and arranger. He is also a pan soloist, plays all instruments in the steel orchestra and is an accomplished drummer.

In 2016 at the age of nineteen he gained recognition with his winning national Panorama arrangement of the popular “Who I Am” by Arthur Allain for Laborie Steel Orchestra. The band made history by being the first from outside the Castries-Gros Islet area to become Panorama champions.

A leader in spite of his young age, Andrius Edwide provides musical direction to both the Junior and Senior bands in Laborie, working with children and young adults ages 6 through 21.

Months after leaving school a few years ago Edwide worked day, night, and weekend shifts at a local factory. Even though departing his home at 6 a.m. he still found time to lead full rehearsals at the Laborie panyard in the afternoons or early evenings. He shows attention to detail, is interested in many musical genres, and is capable of spending long hours – nights and days – to refine an arrangement.

Edwide’s contribution of quality musical direction and inspiration to band members has undoubtedly made a difference in the Laborie Pan Project and its Laborie Steel Pan.
