Mario J. Herreira was born in 1984 to parents Thecla Boldan and John Herreira in Arima, east Trinidad, and started singing at an early age at the functions of family and friends. In 1999 he placed third in his first television appearance on a well-known talent show. He had well and truly caught the singing and performing ‘bug’ and subsequently went on to ‘place’ in many other local talent shows.
In 2002 came Mario’s first opportunity to perform on a cruiseship with his then-band ‘Caribbean Unisongs.’ The next year found him with his first original composition in the top three of the national television talent competition ‘Soundstage.’ He also made it to the studio finals of ‘Digicel Rising Stars’ in 2006. Gigs at various casinos and local clubs performing all genres of music followed.
For the upcoming 2013 Carnival and Panorama season, respectively, Mario has had two releases: the Groovy Soca ‘Fantasy’ which he composed, and Gold for Gold written by Andre Boldan and highlighted here; other tracks are on the way.
