Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The pan or, more correctly, the Steelpan is the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and is the only musical instrument invented in the 20th Century.
At a time when others seek to claim The Steelpan as their own, this graphic is a reminder that This (Trinidad and Tobago) is ‘Pan Country.’ These words are expressed in two diagonally opposite quadrants of a circle along with images of Trinidad and Tobago. In the other quadrants are graphical images of the notes of a tenor pan.
Surrounding the circle is a sweep of red white and black (Trinidad and Tobago’s National Colours) defining the path of a humming bird one of Trinidad’s national birds.
This graphic celebrates the legal coming into being of the Steelpan as the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and affirms that this newest musical instrument is set to take its rightful place alongside the instruments of world’s finest orchestras.
Design and concept are by Designer-jeweller and Pan Aficionado, Gillian Bishop, who is pleased to grant special permission to Republic Bank Exodus Steel Orchestra for its use in its 2025 Panorama presentation.
