SPOTRUSHAZ take it back to the
 future with "IRON"

"The rhythm of the human heart must have first inspired the beat of the drum. All the various inhabitants of Trinidad & Tobago treasure deep in the basis of their own cultures the insistent throbbing of that magical instrument. Thus, the steel pan was created out of the heartbeat of these islands."      -extract from www.steelisland.com/history

Spot Rushaz represent the heartbeat of the Caribbean hip-hop generation. This pulse begins in Carnival 2006 as live iron meets hip-hop kicks and claps (for the first-time ever) on the group's latest release, "Iron"!

"Iron" brings the essence of the traditional Calypso "doo-doop" rhythm into the new millennium and thus completes the circle of creativity that began with the first calypso recording in 1914.

Since then, the ancient oral traditions first brought to the Caribbean by African slaves have spread across the globe and spawned many, many offspring, including: Reggae, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Rapso and Soca. In 2006, Spot Rushaz has combined these elements to create a unique genre they have branded "Tiefhead Music".

"It's music that literally tiefs your head," laughed BDangerous, "meaning that it defies all those structures and definitions of music and genres that exist in the mind of the average listener. Our music has evolved beyond comparison, beyond categorization even! So, we had to create our own category… In theory, a full dose of our new sound should effectively remove these concepts from your mind, without or without your consent, so it's mental larceny: Tiefhead!"

Produced by Aaron "Shortman" Peters, the Shake It Riddum provides the musical backdrop for "Iron" and inspired a comical tale of Carnival fortunes that incorporates the three distinctive flows of Spot Rushaz members (in order of appearance): Nigel "BDangerous" Telesford, Richard "Chromatics" Rajkumar and Wade "TIM Sta" Christian.

Trapped in a steel band during T&T Carnival, Spot Rushaz utilize their natural hip-hop instincts to survive the onslaught of the iron, while paying tribute to the only musical invention of the 20 th Century, the steel pan.

"Honestly, when we heard the riddum, we all liked it, but we didn't know what to do with it," confessed TIM Sta. "Then, Nigel came with the idea to incorporate the iron and package our flows within a steel band-type atmosphere and from there, the song just came to life!

"We didn't even recognize that there was a doo-doop pattern underneath the hip-hop tones until "Marka" (Engineer, Mark Wright) found it when he was mixing the song. Then, it all just made perfect sense; but it was still a tiefhead to find out that we were utilizing one of the foundation rhythms all along, while creating something brand-new and (we hope) ground-breaking."

"Iron" is also the lead single from the Spot Rushaz' first Carnival EP, entitled It's Almost Time, which preludes their official debut album, It's About F@c!in Time, scheduled for release later this year. Other releases include: "Buffie The Body", which features Synergy TV Soca Star, Justin Cross alongside BDangerous and TIM Sta on the Tsunami Riddum; "Head Nice", an infectious collaboration between BDangerous and Khafra Rudder (son of Calypso Icon, David Rudder) and "The Ballad", a true story of love lost and found again, as performed by Chromatics and Justin Cross.

"Spot Rushaz have definitely matured physically, mentally and musically," asserted Chromatics. "We took time out last year to examine our strengths and our weaknesses and we decided to adopt a whole new philosophy with regard to our lives and our careers. Growing up, we always thought and acted outside the box and against the grain, while still managing to exist in the pulse of this island lifestyle. As individuals, we believe that the local rise, regional domination and eventual international success of Spot Rushaz is our destiny and we're going to fulfill it. This is just the beginning, but be advised: It's Almost Time!"
