Global - Mas Man Peter Minshall copped the Best Director award in the Short Documentary category at the Los Angeles International Film Festival, the screening committee announced Wednesday.
On the same day, the E. Desmond Lee Africa World Documentary Film Festival named Mas Man a finalist for 2011, its fourth anniversary.

“With over 160 high quality submissions, the committee had a difficult task selecting the finalists in both the full length and short length categories that have now qualified for our prizes,” a festival spokesperson said.
“We are poised to commence the festival for 2011,” said ‘Niyi Coker, Jr., AWDFF Director.
The festival will be held March 5–12 in Cave Hill, Barbados; April 20–23 in Yaounde, Cameroon; and May 12–14 in St. Louis, Missouri.
The AWDFF is committed to the promotion of knowledge, life and culture of the people of Africa worldwide. It is sponsored by the E. Desmond Lee Professorship in African/African-American Studies, Center for International Studies at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
Mas Man, a film about Trinidad Carnival artist and designer Peter Minshall was produced and directed by
Dalton Narine,
also well-known as a steelpan
musician and historian. It received 10 nominations and won six awards on the 2009-2010 film festival circuit.
