One of Trinidad and Tobago's most dynamic Steel Orchestras, Supernovas are known for their eclectic repertoire of music that comprise of many genres of music which include Latin, calypso, reggae, pop, chutney, jazz and classical.

Inspired by their most revered son of the Soil, Dr. Jit Samaroo; The band was formed by members of the community of Surrey Village in 2010. Under the leadership of Amrit Samaroo and management of Anthony Samaroo, "the little band that can" has competed consistently at a high level in the Small Band Category of the National Panorama for four years, winning the title in 2014.

They once again impressed in 2015, placing second at the International Conference and Panorama. This all lead to their Breakthrough performance at Panorama 2016, where the First Citizens Supernovas signalled their arrival to the Large band Category with a second place finish behind the formidable Desperadoes Steel Orchestra.

However, Panorama is just one part of their operation. They are known for creating their own events such as "Mallets, Brass and Steel", a concert celebrating a unique collaboration with University of Delaware Percussion Ensemble and the University of Trinidad and Tobago Brass Ensemble. Their recently concluded event, "Reaching Souls", was a concert with a difference featuring 13 other steel bands all playing inspirational music.

Supernovas have developed a reputation for having one of the most vibrant stage sides, performing in parades, "blockos" and concerts at home and abroad. In August of 2015, they represented Trinidad and Tobago at The Caribbean festival of arts, (Carifesta XII), held in Haiti.

The group is also involved in educational programmes and community outreach projects in their community. This stands as testament of the First Citizens Supernovas' commitment to the youth, culture and national development of Trinidad and Tobago.

Supernovas Steel Orchestra is a relatively new aggregation out of Surrey Village, Lopinot, Trinidad, and under the musical direction of Amrit Samaroo, son of Pan legend Jit Samaroo.

Supernovas registered with Pan Trinbago in 2010.

Supernovas participated in 2015’s International Panorama competition and placed second .

Samaroo, however, aside from coming from good ‘Pan’ pedigree, has had past experience in the annual Carnival Pan contest.

He arranged for bpTT Renegades in 2008 and 2009, taking the Charlotte Street steel orchestra to finals night on both occasions.
