Trinidad - St. Margaret’s
Boys Anglican Steel Orchestra will represent Trinidad &
Tobago at the 5th Annual Festival
Internacional Cedros-Universidad Panamericana in Mexico
City, Mexico.
A
total of 30 performers, professors and researchers from
14 countries have been invited. All of which will help
to enhance the quality of the music education not only
from Mexico, but also from all Latin America.
The
Under 16 National Junior Panorama 2007 winners will
depart on Sunday and return on Monday 26th
March 2 007. During their stay, the steel orchestra
will participate in a series of concerts geared towards
musical youth groups from various countries.
The
invitation was issued to Pan Trinbago through the
Mexican Embassy and funded by the Ministries of
Education, Tourism, Community Development, Culture and
Gender Affairs. It was felt that the participation of
TnT’s youth steel orchestra will have a special place in
the Festival, not only for their young age and excellent
musical level, but for the message that a group like
them represents to the music world: messengers of peace,
freedom and world communication.
Forty-one (41) persons of which 28 are band members
between the ages 8 – 14 years will make the trip. The
students will be accompanied by teachers, parents and
officials.
Fundamental objective of this Festival is to offer
Mexico an opportunity to improve the learning and
teaching of music at all its levels; from pre-school
leading up to general music studies at the primary
school, professional, interpretation, etc.
“Our
main concern,” according to Coordinator Jorge Martinez
Carino, “is to offer all music teachers of Mexico, the
opportunity to improve their teaching tools.
“The
music of the world”, a term used today by specialists to
refer to music created by non-traditional cultural
groups, is a basic tool to be shared with the professors
of Mexico. Consequently, the importance that Trinidad &
Tobago’s music known as “steel pan” has gained in this
medium will be very useful for the completion of this
task”
Other
highlights of the visit will be a tour to the pyramids
of Teotihuacan and a Mexican party for the visiting
delegation. |
