On Tuesday April 8th the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU)
Steel Band, directed by professor Jason Koontz, will be
sharing the stage with the Madison Central High School (MCHS)
percussion ensemble to present a concert entitled “Contrasts
in Percussion.” The MCHS Percussion Ensemble, directed
by EKU graduate Jeremiah Fowler, will present an eclectic
mix of contemporary and traditional percussion ensemble
works by composers such as David Gillingham, Scott Joplin,
and Philip Faini.
The Eastern Kentucky University Steel
Band will present several selections
from its upcoming tour repertoire ranging from contemporary
compositions for steel band by Andy Narell, Jeff Narell,
Chris Tanner and Jason Koontz, to
arrangements of popular tunes such as “Over the Rainbow”
from the Wizard of
Oz. The concert is free, and the venue is EKU's Brock
Auditorium in Richmond, Kentucky.
To promote this event, both the EKU Steel Band and the MCHS
Percussion
ensemble will be featured on Friday, April 4th on the LEX 18
sunrise news
broadcast from 5:30 — 7:00 AM. Please tune in for a preview
of the concert!
