Global - The steelpan instrument, Christmas and Robert Greenidge = “A Coral Reefer Christmas.”  What more could one ask for in terms of a special music item for the season? And if that’s not enough, Robert brings a star musical cast to the table on this one.  On vocals is none other than Jimmy Buffet providing complementary vocal support.

Oh - did we mention that the musicians are members of that world-renowned Coral Reefer Band who hold a very special place in the hearts of all the “Parrot heads” of the world?

Robert and crew bring a fresh approach and interpretation of the seasonal classics.  This is not just another Christmas music collection featuring the steelpan instrument.  Far from it indeed. “A Coral Reefer Christmas” is serious music.  What Robert does, is unapologetically and unabashedly take advantage of the unique sounds, harmonics and tonal mixtures ‘successfully’ that can be achieved with the steelpan music instrument in combination with traditional instruments.  The result is Robert Greenidge delivering a collection of performances that is destined to become not only the holiday talk of the town, but moreover a holiday classic.

Title Tracks

  1. O Come All Ye Faithful / O Little Town of Bethlehem / The Little Drummer Boy
  2. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
  3. Winter Wonderland (featuring vocals by Jimmy Buffett)
  4. Angels We Have Heard On High / Carol Of Bells Listen
  5. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
  6. O Christmas Tree
  7. O Holy Night
  8. Silent Night
  9. Joy To the World / We Wish You A Merry Christmas

Just in case you just arrived on planet earth, Robert Greenidge is simply one of the baddest cats to ever grace the steelpan music instrument on this planet.  As we say here at When Steel Talks - the man has got “skills.”  The legendary touch of Mr. Greenidge is on full display at every turn. It (his command of the instrument) is something that only two or three other steelpan performers have, and most have not come close to mastering.  Add great musicianship, musical direction and competent production and you come up with something special - no matter what the occasion is or time of the year.

Throughout the collection the steelpan instrument plays a prominent role as leader, supporter, soloist, backup and accompaniment - never overstated, never understated.  Much credit must go the producer who exploited the magnificence of Robert’s skills and the steelpan instruments’ beauty.  Listening to Robert’s performance is like watching a Lamborghini moving down a road at 10 miles an hour:  simply capable of anything  - but with nothing to prove.

To achieve any level of realization in any project of this stature requires great musicians, knowledgeable engineers to capture the performances and a capable production team savvy enough to put it all together and deliver the goods.  Anything less, and you can end up with nonsense.   Not to worry, though - it’s all here in this package.

A Coral Reefer Christmas is a winner. Don’t be surprised if folks are playing this one long after the holiday season is over.  Get your copy now!
