Mas Man producer and director
Dalton Narine (also a steelpan
musician and historian) was
presented the Best Director (Short
Documentary) award by the Los
Angeles International Film Festival
last week, distinguishing the film
about Peter Minshall by its fifth
prize since it won Best Documentary
at the Trinidad and Tobago Film
Festival in 2009 as a work in
progress.
Dalton Narine with Mas Man
award
Mas Man has been warmly received
on the festival circuit in the US,
UK, Cameroon and South Africa, but
Narine says it is still unfinished.
The work is scheduled to be
completed by August 15.
Mas Man has received nominations in
three categories at nine festivals
and won six awards, including Best
Cinematography.
The completed film, a 90-minute
upgrade of the current edition, will
be geared toward a theatrical
audience, Narine says, and presented
to distributors as a long-form
documentary. The restructured work
will include more themes and
insightful interviews as well as new
footage. The film is under
consideration to be premiered at a
cinema in Trinidad later this year.
Meanwhile, Mas Man was selected by
Africa World Documentary Film
Festival (AWDFF) for the 'I Will
Tell' International Film Festival,
which is based in London.
“The festival will take place at
venues around London from September
1-12,” an AWDFF release stated,
“with the aim of exposing our
festival and your work to British
distributors and television
executives. We are very excited with
this new partnership and are happy
to be given the opportunity to
screen selected documentaries from
submissions to our festival over the
past four years.
“It is our pleasure to inform you
that your thought-provoking film,
"Mas Man,” was one of the
documentaries selected for special
screening in London.”
