“Panwomen is Boss”- All-female Pan Jazz Concert Celebrates Women in Pan

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Pan Atlanta Networks, Inc. presents “Panwomen is Boss,” an All-Female Pan Jazz Concert, on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the La Joya Auditorium (opposite the Jinnah Memorial Mosque), Eastern Main Road, St. Joseph, Trinidad. The show is designed to celebrate female panists for their contribution to the steelband movement.

Women are in no uncertain terms the nucleus of the steelband movement. They give life and sustenance to the world of the steelband. They give birth to the practitioners, supporters and critics of the art form. They provide the support necessary for its gestation, development and evolution.

For the July 28 All-Female Pan Jazz Concert, steelpan lovers in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean should take a couple of hours off and pay homage to the female members of the steelpan fraternity. Celebrate the female panists of Trinidad and Tobago!

Come and celebrate them all and enjoy some of the most proficient female panists on the planet: Anther Balfour, Ayana Garcia, Shivana Ragoonanan, Keisha Codrington, Yesha George and Solo Harmonites Juniors Female Ensemble. The program also includes the sisters of Wasa Foli, and special guest, up and coming jazz songstress, Hope Fairways.

“Panwomen is Boss” is under the musical direction of renowned panist Natasha Joseph of Phase II and Panazz fame.  Natasha’s band, MAW-B, will provide the accompaniment for the soloists. Solo Harmonites Juniors Female Ensemble is under the direction of Cyllan Franklin and managed by Hazel Frank.

The show is produced by Pan Atlanta Networks, Inc., the most recent initiative of Trinidad-born economist, bandleader and pan activist, Dr. Ajamu Nyomba. Currently an assistant professor of economics at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta Georgia, Ajamu (a.k.a. Carl Thomas) is a former member of four-time panorama champions, Solo Harmonites. Dr. Nyomba was a Fulbright Scholar in Residence at the Academy of Arts, Letters, Culture and Public Affairs of University of Trinidad and Tobago from January to June of 2013.
