
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - birdsong Academy wishes to invite new students primary and secondary schools to register for its After School Music Programme (ASMP), for the 2014/15 school year. The birdsong Academy is birdsong’s vehicle for youth music education. The After School Music Programme provides free instruction to youths, from the beginner level onward, in music theory and techniques of playing steelpan and orchestral instruments including brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, guitar and bass, both upright and electric.
Registration for the new term is open to students aged 10-14 yrs. Interested students and their parents or guardians are asked to be at the pan theatre, corner Connell and St Vincent Streets, Tunapuna, Trinidad as follows:
- Primary school students (aged 10 and older) – Tuesday, September 3, 2014 from 3:30 p.m.
- Secondary school students (aged 14 and under) – Wednesday, September 4, 2014 from 3:00 p.m.
Classes for new and returning students in the After School Music Programme begin the week of September 8, 2014. Weekly four 3-hour sessions are conducted at the birdsong pan theatre at the Corner of St. Vincent and Connell Streets, Tunapuna. Based on satisfactory technical and theoretical progress and discipline, students may be invited to spend up to three years in the After School Programme, eventually graduating to the vacation and subsequently Saturday programmes and the senior ensembles of birdsong Academy.
The vacation programme is an intensive 5-week music camp for 120 children in the August vacation period. The Saturday programme is year-round during the school year and takes students through mid and upper level graded theory and practical exams. birdsong also has a scholarship programme which affords its students the opportunity to pursue tertiary music studies at learning institutions abroad.
