Youth Empowerment Within The Steel Pan Industry

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Pan Trinbago, in collaboration with the ICP (International Conference and Panorama), is hosting the International Conference and Panorama, which takes place from the 3rd to the 9th of August 2015.

The ICP secretariat is hosting this event to reinforce Pan Trinbago’s position as the world governing body for the steel pan. The steel band movement was born over eighty years ago. To ensure its continued existence and progress, Pan Trinbago is putting emphasis on youth development. There were three events designed for youth participation, one of which has already taken place with great success, the ‘Panknowrama Secondary School Quiz’. Next on the agenda is one of the more prestigious events, The Youth Forum, which is entitled Youth Empowerment Within The Steel Pan Industry.

The Youth Forum takes place at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theatre 1 at UWI (University of the West Indies) St. Augustine, Trinidad, on the 3rd of August, 2015.

The team responsible for the construction and format of the forum is a dynamic group of young people. Paul Massy and Derek Boucaud who both work at the Ministry of Education; Mr. Khion De Las who works at the University of the West Indies; Mrs. Toni Williams who works at the ICP and Mr. Aquil Arrindell who heads the team as he holds the position of Education Officer at Pan Trinbago. They will be utilizing scenarios, videos and entertainment to evoke discussion among the young brilliant minds of the pan movement. Some of the objectives of these discussions are to create an awareness among youths of their role in pan politics, making pan events attractive for all youths and encouraging entrepreneurship, scholarship and training for youths within the steel pan industry.

Please contact Mrs. Toni Williams at 1 (868) 271-2611 to confirm your attendance. The cost is free with breakfast and lunch included. Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m.
