“...the place for great steelpan music performances”

Brooklyn,  New York -  There is no shortage of great clubs that feature live music from outstanding performing musicians in New York. And in this regard the Trendz night club is well on its way to establish itself as such. Recently WST (When Steel Talks) was reminded of that fact after we caught a performance of famed Brooklyn panist extraordinaire Iman Pascall at the Trendz lounge located on the border of East Flatbush and Canarsie.

Iman Pascall who started off as a child prodigy in the New York pan circles has developed into a complete artist. On this evening at Trendz Iman was accompanied by her personal keyboardist Khuent Rose (performing artist, educator and composer in his own right) and house musicians from Ricardo Greenaway and friends. Iman’s varied repertoire showcased her immense talent and skills as she wowed and engaged the audience with songs like Charlie Parker’s “Donna Lee,” Chick Corea’s “Spain,” Stevie Wonder’s “As” and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” And along the way the audience was treated to her beautiful interpretation of David Rudder’s “Calypso Music.”

Ms. Pascall has indeed come of age. Her tantalizing and commanding presence on the tenor pan was a joy to watch, listen and experience. As an added bonus, and one of the advantages of attending Pan night at the Trendz, was the presence of two of North America’s best panists—Freddie Harris, III and Earl Brooks Jr.—who joined in on one of Pascall’s performances and thrilled the crowd with a very special showing.

Iman Pascall is part of the next generation of young panists that are creating great music. Make sure you catch her next showcase. You will not be disappointed.

Also appearing as the resident band and opening and closing act, was the ensemble Ricardo Greenaway and Friends; the group is much more than just the house act. They are headliners in their own right, and are more than worth the price of admission.

In addition to himself being an accomplished panist and performing artist - Greenaway is the producer and director of the alternate Friday evenings of great live Pan performances at the Trendz. Greenaway explains that the need and concept of having a place dedicated to steelpan music performances in the borough of Brooklyn was a critical part of his vision in supporting and contributing to the art form.

So if you are looking for a great place to hang out on alternate Friday evenings in Brooklyn with great vibes and great live music the Trendz is for you.

Up next at the Trendz on November 11th is the famed guitarist Marvin Dolly, with his Trio. And of course Ricardo and Friends will be there. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and show is from 8:30–11:30 p.m. The address is 8906 Ditmas Avenue between Remsen Avenue and East 89th Street.
