Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - “In celebration of the Anniversary of our Independence and in recognition of our National Instrument, the Steel Pan, The Woodbrook/St. James Community Association has successfully staged five Steel Band parades in Woodbrook, from 2012 to 2016. The event is being dubbed the “Borough Day event of Woodbrook.” It is geared towards bringing out the residents on the side-walks with a picnic like atmosphere, to enjoy the National instrument. There will be no vending or amplified music, just the sweet sounds of the steel pan.
“On Saturday August 26th 2017, we are once again planning to have Pan on d’Avenue VI along Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook. The parade route this year is from Taylor Street heading east to Colville Street. This year’s event will be dedicated to deceased Stephen Derek - Masman, Wire bender and resident of Woodbrook. It is also our intention to honour prominent residents of Woodbrook and long-standing members of some Steel Bands throughout Trinidad & Tobago. These two categories represent the unsung heroes of our society and our National Instrument. There will be an opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Ariapita Avenue just in front Adam-Smith Square, where these icons shall be awarded before a trailer rolls in with a rhythm section and dancers followed by the Steel Bands.”
Previous Honorees: 1st King, Colin Edghill and Queen, Kay Christopher (2012)

community-based organization that was incorporated on June 30th,
2011. Our group’s mission is to foster good relationships to build a
Stronger Community. Our Association was formed in 2011 to celebrate
the 100th Anniversary of Woodbrook. Over the years
and with the Government’s assistance, we have held several
successful events annually such as the celebrations of Eid, Divali
and Christmas inclusive of a Christmas Toy distribution drive
amongst others. Last year we had our very first Christmas Pan Parade
and it was a huge success.
