LMD Grant awarded to Caribbean Steelpan Connextion - First Steelpan Group to be Acknowledged

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - On Saturday May 28, 2022 Caribbean Steelpan Connextion will be celebrating more than just the re-opening of performance venues for live artists and bands like themselves. The Port-of-Spain-based ensemble will be hosting the event as the first steelpan recipients of the Live Music District (LMD) Grant which was awarded by the Trinidad and Tobago Music Company Limited (MusicTT) to promoters and event managers of live music acts.

According to MusicTT’s General Manager, Melissa Jimenez, in reply to the Company’s Open Call for submissions, Caribbean Steelpan Connextion was able to put forward a dynamic portfolio that demonstrated an evidence-based approach to creating sustainability and relevance in the evolving entertainment industry. She added that the band showed proof of the growth of their brand and audience over the past few years, which included their entry into emerging niche markets for their craft.

The band’s manager, Israel McLeod also shared her excitement about her team being recipients of this historic gesture and added that it was an endorsement of their passion, discipline and vision. She further stated that along with the band’s Musical Director, Andre Robley and their team of stellar musicians, they had aimed to create an export product for the cultural and tourism sectors that would be worthy of international appeal and investment. This, she emphasised, is about creating sustainable and decent work for all performance artists, beginning with ourselves. It is a win for steelpan because we are capable of doing business the right way.

The World on Steel is an annual production of Caribbean Steelpan Connextion, which continues to receive the support of the Embassy of France through Alliance Francaise TT. The open-air concert has quickly grown to become an intimate evening of world class entertainment for music lovers. For the last four (4) years, the event has also been supported ardently by Codrington Pan Institute, NUANCE Solar & Security, Limore TT and Angostura, while TTRS Limited became an official partner in 2022.

Tickets for The World on Steel IV – Return to the Secret Gardens can be bought at the front desk of Alliance Francaise TT, Alcazar Street, St. Clair or via WhasApp at 1 (868) 293-5354. Performances will include features from Kaiso Jazz icon Carlton “Zanda” Alexander, gospel sensation Nisa, Saxophonist Nicholas Sylvan, Aaliyah Hinds and others. Tickets are semi-inclusive and priced at $150.00 TTD.
