Tyeesha Alexander participated in ‘PanoGrama 2021’ and placed third in the final. Her instrument was manufactured by Panland and tuned by Lennox Ling.
Tyeesha Alexander hails from a village named Mayo in South Trinidad. She was introduced to the instrument at the tender of six when a family friend by the name of Lennox Ling, asked her mother if she could enroll in the Mayo Starlift Steel Ensemble. This group was located less than five minutes away from her house. She started on the single seconds, moved to guitar pan and then eventually to single tenor.
By the age of eight years old, Tyeesha entered Southern Marines Talent Expression and placed eighth in the finals with her rendition of “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”. Over the years, Tyeesha participated in NGC Sanfest, Mastana Bahar, Movie-Towne Trini Kids Got Talent, PanoGrama, Pan Ramajay, and D Bess Pan on CNC3.
In the recently concluded D Bess Pan competition, Tyeesha won the hearts of the judges, walking away with first prize.
Tyeesha recently graduated from the Certificate in Pan and Music Literacy Program, with honors and at the top of her class. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Academy for the Performing Arts Campus.
Tyeesha has taught several students music theory as well as playing at her home in Mayo. Tyeesha has had the opportunity to share her talent with various bands around Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, and St Vincent. She believes that her journey has now begun and she cannot wait to see where passion takes her.
