LYRICS

Verse 1
You start as a champion culture minister
By putting carnival back in the savannah
When you change the name of NAPA
To the beat of the drum
And you call it
Lord Kitchener’s auditorium
You even lamented, a people’s mas band
Then you bite your tongue
When it came to the pan
So pull up Mister Selector
Pan people need money too
Minister, them ain’t joking I’m telling you

Chorus
More money for pan, dear Minister
More money for pan we say
Remember this pan is the Nation’s treasure
And second to none, big brother
You have done so much good things already
But pan is the National Instrument
With carnival round the corner
It will be nice to hear people say
Panorama, hip hip hooray

Verse 2
Survival for the panist is at carnival
Every steelband hoping to capture the prize
So they practicing forever, because is now or never
Till the break of dawn oh what a sacrifice
We give to the world this treasure, we call ‘Harps of Gold’
One thousand dollars is just a drop in the hole
Gypsy I know you could make it better I have confidence in you
Preliminaries at least you should give them two

Chorus
More money for pan, dear Minister
More money for pan we say
Remember this pan is the Nation’s treasure
And second to none, big brother
You have done so much good things already
But pan is the National Instrument
With carnival round the corner
It will be nice to hear people say
Panorama, hip hip hooray

Verse 3
I know you use to play pan culture minister
Up in Mayaro when you were just a boy
Then you start to sing calypso a few years later
She went for Cane’ brought the people so much joy
I know you would like to see the panist happy
Well now this is the time for you to do your duty
I would like to hear them say
Gypsy is the man for we
Then I will be sure you will go down in history

Chorus
More money for pan, dear Minister
More money for pan we say
Remember this pan is the Nation’s treasure
And second to none, big brother
You have done so much good things already
But pan is the National Instrument
With carnival round the corner
It will be nice to hear people say
Panorama, hip hip hooray

Winston Scarborough is considered by many to be one of the all-time great composers of steelband ‘panorama tunes.’ A performer artiste himself, 2011 will mark the 33rd year that Trinidad & Tobago’s Winston Scarborough (The Original DeFosto Himself - as he loves to be called) has been singing calypsos.  For him it was an uphill struggle to be recognized by the fraternity and public at large.

Abandoned by both his parents at the young age of 6 months, Scarborough was sent to the Tacarigua Orphanage in east Trinidad where he remained until age 17.  The experience in the orphanage would place an indelible stamp on him.

One of the most important aspects of DeFosto’s work as a calypsonian is the tributes he has paid in song to many of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural icons; the late Lord Kitchener (calypsonian Aldwyn Roberts) would be one such with whom people are most familiar.
