LYRICS

Verse 1
In the heat, we can’t face defeat
To achieve, victory, will go down in history
Jam down, coming from the steel drum
Play this one for Mouther B I say
In the heat, we can’t face defeat
Execution it is the key
This is competition time
Play and free up your mind
Pan on the rise, it’s no surprise
This is the story, enjoy the glory
WOE YO, WOE YO,
WOE YO WOE YO, WOE YO

Chorus
’Cause Carnival is Bacchanal
Calypso and the big show
We want to take the crown
So we could sing along
WWOE YO, WOE YO, WOE YO
WOE YO, WOE YO, WOE YO
Play the pan and let it flow

Carnival is Bacchanal
Calypso and the big show
We want to take the crown
So we could sing along
WOE YO, WOE YO, WOE YO
WOE YO, WOE YO, WOE YO
Play the pan and let it flow

Music tight, that’s the prize
Coming from the inside

Magical touch, from the hands we play
Performance, progression time, celebration all night
We’ll take the prize, that’s judgment time

WOE YO, WOE YO

Visit When Steel Talks

Olatunji Yearwood was born 3rd September 1985 in the beautiful twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, to parents Edward Yearwood, a well-known composer and mother, the late Mairoon Ali, local actress, radio personality and teacher.  From birth, it was evident that Olatunji or “Ola” as he is widely known came into this world with raw talent flowing through his veins.

Olatunji attended Trinity College, Trinidad and in 2002 at the age of 16, he entered the Junior Calypso competition arena where he placed 2nd in the NYAC Emancipation Competition and also in the Junior Calypso Competition.

By 2006 Olatunji had completed a Diploma Degree in Performing Arts at the UK’s West Thames College of Performing Arts, and performed at several Caribbean functions including the Cacique Awards.  He released the track “Cry of the Nation” in August 2006.  The “Naughty Boy” label showed interest in his unique style of music and he recorded tracks with “Hitman” and “The Executioner,” well known Reggae/Hip- Hop artistes/ producers in the UK.

Upon returning home in 2006, Olatunji joined well-known soca band Traffik, before moving on to Roy Cape’s legendary All Stars, with whom he performed his first hit song “Get Wild,” most popular for Carnival 2007.  It also earned him 7th place in the International Soca Monarch finals.  Ola is now part of the and has toured Canada with, the most highly respected soca band in the world.  He has also enjoyed solo performances in New York, Miami and the Caribbean, and shared the stage with soca artistes such as Blaxx, Iwer George, Peter Ram, Crazy and many more.

Olatunji’s motto and ambition is “to touch humanity through verse and song...”
