Global - 2012 Single Pan Band champs San Juan East Side Symphony is the band to beat - literally - going into the 2013 finals on February 7 in San Fernando. Results from the Single Pan Band semi-final rounds attested to the East-zone band’s ability to stave off challengers – up to this point – from thirty-two competitors. That field has narrowed to fifteen after the January 26 semi-finals at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain. If San Juan East Side Symphony wins, it would be a hat-trick for the band. It threw its hat into the competitive ring with Duvone Stewart one more time as arranger, and his re-working of Get Something And Wave.
Contenders like Woodbrook Playboyz, Trinidad & Tobago Defence Force, Gonzales Sheikers and more will give the title their best shot at Skinner’s Park in San Fernando, the final venue for yet another year. The Single Pan Band category’s 2013 season started off with sixty-three groups representing the East, North, South/Central and Tobago regions. Also part of the February 7 event, are the 2013 finals for the small conventional steel orchestras.
