Winning Steel Orchestras, Mas, Kaiso and more at Champs of Steel Plus

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Even as Lord Kitchener sang “The Carnival Is Over,” “Champs of Steel Plus gives steelpan music and culture lovers one final chance to relive the memories of the recently-concluded Carnival celebrations.

The post-Carnival event produced by Pan Trinbago and which features, in part, most of the winners and champions of the major competitions - is held annually on the Saturday after Carnival. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 8th March at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Showtime time is 8:00 p.m.

Heading the cast are the eight steelband champions in the various categories i.e. Phase II Pan Groove, Pan Elders, Supernovas, San Juan East Side Symphony & Pan Jammers, Renegades Juniors, Providence/QRC and St. Paul’s Anglican School. Winners of the text-to-win competitions, Sound Specialists of Laventille and Trinidad All Stars will make an appearance.

This year’s production features some of the finest exponents of mas, calypso and chutney on one stage providing a fitting end to the festivities. These include the Senior and Junior King and Queen of Carnival, Quars Al Sahara “Desert Sting (Wade Madray), “Zamara Mirage of the Oasis” (Peola Marchan), “Promise of the Rainbow” (Gyasi Philbert) and “Angel of the Buccoo” (Cyan Lue Shue) as well as the “most outstanding mas presentation of 2K14.”

Also making the playbill are some of the season’s hottest champs and contenders including the National Calypso Monarch Roderick “Chucky” Gordon, Political Commentary winner “Mr. Shak,” Junior Calypso Monarch, Ronaldo London, Ex-Tempo’s Brian London and Chutney Soca Kris “KI” Persad. Other components such International Soca & Groovy Soca, Young King and National Calypso Queen will be showcased. Kelly Green & Harmony will provide musical accompaniment.

Tickets for General Seating at the Grand Stand at the Queen’s Park Savannah, priced at TT $200.00 are on sale at Cleve’s Frederick Street, Port–of-Spain, Crosby’s St. James, Kam’s Long Circular Mall, Pan Trinbago South/Central Regional Office, Park Street and San Fernando, and at the Queen’s Park Savannah Ticket Booth on the day of the show.

Champs of Steel Plus, originally called Champs in Concert, has been a fixture in the Carnival calendar since 1980.
