“Mr.
Diesel”

Colin Hayden Jackman, the artist formerly known, as “CJ” is now “Mr. Diesel” was born on May 12th, 1968. Colin started his musical journey at the tender age of ten, under the breadfruit tree playing the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago—the pan (tenor)—with Trintoc Invaders. He migrated the U.S. in the early 80s and made his debut on the Soca stage in 1989 with the hit “Poison in the Party.”
Colin then went
on to join many bands like
‘Kaiso Beat Riddim,’ ‘Zoom
Rhythm Division,’ ‘Blaze’ and
‘Chandelier.’ In 2001 and 2002
he was the first runner-up in
the Young Kings of Calypso
Monarch competition. In 2003 his
positive tune “When Ah Mother
Cry” took him to higher heights
in winning the Arima Calypso
Monarch competition.
Colin then formed the Soca Awards Organization Inc. in 2003 where he started the International Soca Awards red carpet ceremony. In 2006 he was awarded the Upliftment and Improvement (U & I) Award in New York City by Ms. Monica Sanchez, CEO of CCNMGI & CIP Org., for his key leadership role towards the upliftment and improvement of Caribbean Culture and Soca music, which was presented to him by actor & humanitarian Mr. Danny “Diehard” Glover.
As “CJ,” Colin also put out tracks such as Touchdown in 2014, and Ah Big Song back in 2013.
Colin has proclaimed to the world that his love for Soca and Calypso is unwavering and that he will continuously work towards the dream of “Taking soca to higher heights™.” The artist formerly known as “CJ” is now ‘Mr. Diesel.’ He composes songs for a number of entertainers, and is himself back on the soca stage with his hit composition #Carnival for Panorama 2016.
