Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Pan Elders and Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra have emerged National Panorama Champions in the Medium and Large Conventional Bands categories respectively at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, Trinidad, last Saturday.
After a highly intoxicating night (Saturday) into wee hours of the next morning (Sunday) of an exquisite musical fare, the two champions were named.
Pan Elders under the baton of Duvonne Stewart served Michael Osuana/Mohan Paltoo “Roti & Talkarie” and was rewarded with 282 points to top their category for the fourth consecutive year. Next in line was Curepe Scherzando (275 points) and their offering of Winston Bailey’s “Stanger” arranged by Yohan Popwell. Coming in third was Tobago’s NLCB Buccooneers. They opted for the Mark Loquan/Seion Gomez’ composition “Rhythm Run Tings” arranged by Seion Gomez.
Adjudicators in this category were: Lorna Conyette, Martin Albino. Stephanie Power, Ezra Joseph, Michelle Dowrich, Corinne Soo Ping Chow.
In the Large Band category, Massy Trinidad All Stars dethroned arch rival Desperadoes to come in first with a three point lead of 286 points. Playing the Leon “Smooth” Edwards’ arrangement of “Full Extreme”, the band etched its name in the steelband music annals as the holder of the coveted title for the tenth time. Desperadoes and bp Renegades filled the second and third places for their musical execution of Jovan James’ “Good Morning” with 283 and 280 points respectively.
The job of adjudicating fell to Joanna Ragbir, Roger Sardinah, Richard Pierre. Lambert Phillip, Lennox London and Audley Timothy.
