Trinidad Pan in Search of Trinidad All Stars - Desperadoes - Starlift All Heading To New York KC Says He Is The Man To
Deliver All Stars At KC's Hide Away In Pictures New York- Saturday 17 June was a big day for KC and his crew at his Hideaway entertainment center located on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. While KC returned with steelband instruments just released from US customs, his staff worked to prepare the venue for the evening's show. The promoter/entertainer still found a bit of time to sit down with When Steel Talks when they dropped by. Upon seeing Trinidad All Stars perform at this year's steelband panorama competition in Trinidad, New York's Kenneth Charles better known as 'KC' decided that there was a bright future in a collaboration between him and the famed orchestra. It was at this moment that KC decided to bring Trinidad All Stars to New York to perform at the "Hideaway". KC - himself a musical performer - is "on a mission" to bring the music of James Brown with the backing of pan, to the world. Ultimately KC expects James Brown himself to perform with the bands.
In addition to Trinidad All Stars, KC has committed to bringing Desperadoes and Starlift steel orchestras to New York over the next two months. New York's CASYM steel orchestra shares billing at all three events. But this was not KC's initial business venture - he had gone to Trinidad to make arrangements for a mas/carnival band to be in New York for Labor Day. When these plans fell through, KC explained, his attention was caught by the steelband performance of All Stars. According to this self-proclaimed 'James Brown of Soca,' Desperadoes steel orchestra also expressed interest in New York appearances. He then additionally added Starlift steel orchestra to the roster because of the band's 'large New York following.' Following Trinidad All Stars' June 17 and 18 stint, Desperadoes steel orchestra is expected to perform at KC's Hideaway on July 15 and 16, while Starlift is slated for August 19 and 20 appearances. KC still intends to have a band on 'the parkway' - but instead of his previously envisioned 'mas band', it will now be a steelband, as he pairs up with Trinidad All Stars for a Labor Day experience.
