Steel Sensation - “Wedding Band (Ms. Walker)” - 2026 - (‘Tempo’ version - Video)

Brooklyn, New York, USA - Steel Sensation is one of the four 2026 New York Panorama participating steel orchestras which opted for a different tune of choice, instead of going with “Cyah Behave” favored by five other competitors. The band courted music lovers attending the show and the judges with “Wedding Band” by “Coutain” & “Tano.”

Steel Sensation released a musical volley of technical brilliance. Under the direction of Tristan Japsi, who uses a large thematic overall approach to his arrangement, the group delivers a well-thought-out music story as their future ‘wedding plans’ are delivered personally to ‘Ms. Walker’ for her daughter’s hand in marriage. It is storytelling at its highest.

While the original Mighty Sparrow classic calypso ‘Mr. Walker’ is based on the interaction with a father about his daughter, this song “Wedding Band” is the exchange with a mother, Ms. Walker and her daughter. Steel Sensation opens the song with a substantive and dramatic big band intro, followed by a very careful, confident and systematic musical statement of the melody. It is an emotional delivery drawing in listeners as they join in the yearning expressed throughout Tristan’s arrangement and Steel Sensation’s performance. Steelpan instruments were tuned by Augustus “Gussy” Peters and Desmond “Mappo” Richardson.

This is Steel Sensation’s ‘Tempo’ version captured on Friday September 4 by Basement Recordings as the band prepared in their Brooklyn, New York panyard before going to Panorama on Saturday September 5, 2026.
