Jamel Cadette has returned to participate once more in PanoGrama, having placed 9th in the 2021 final. His instrument was made and tuned by Andy Neils.
Jamel Cadette is 19 years old and from Petit Bourg, San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. One of the younger steelpan soloists and arrangers, Jamel’s musical journey began just shy of 11 years in 2013, with small conventional band Musical Gems. In 2015 he joined the birdsong Academy (2015-2017) to begin furthering his career learning to read and write music. This became pivotal for him in the years to come.
While attending St. Augustine Secondary School (2014-2019) Jamel was given the opportunity to arrange for the school’s steel orchestra for the National Junior Panorama Competition. This experience of teaching individuals that he attended school with, was life changing, and proved to be a great achievement for him.
In the 2019 and 2020 National Junior Panorama competitions, he received the Outstanding Student Arranger Award.
Cadette is pleased and encouraged with the attainment of St. Augustine Secondary School Steel Orchestra being in the top ten with his arrangements - two years in a row. With these accomplishments under his belt he is now pursuing his passion and goals, to achieve a Bachelor of Music at the University of Trinidad and Tobago Performing Arts Academy, specializing in steelpan. Today he is appreciative and focused, for his life experiences and the discipline this instrument has taught him as a young man.
