gift of music on September 28, with the launch of his CD

“Pan
On Fire,” is the title of the album that was presented to
members of the pan fraternity at the Newtown, Port-of-Spain,
panyard of Excellent Stores Silver Stars Steel Orchestra.
Scores of music lovers turned out for the occasion and
signalled their satisfaction with the quality material,
which does not qualify for the Panorama stage alone, but for
all round entertainment.
Songbird Nicole De Coteau sizzled with her performance of
Elvis Chairman’s Pan In the Park, in tribute to the staging
of the Panorama 2007 at Skinner Park, San Fernando, while
Eunice Peters’ rendition of South Pan Champs told the story
of another orchestra from the district capturing the coveted
large band title again, someday.

De Fosto (Winston Scarborough)
performs “Puncernelly” |
“Time
to Breakaway,” vocalised by Kerwyn Trotman was the name
of the song penned by Mark Loquan who celebrates ten years
of writing for the pan.
Loquan and Silver Stars arranger Edwin Pouchet joined forces
to produce Celebration Time sung by Steve Sealey. Thunder
Coming, is another Pouchet original. It was performed by
Chucky.
Kurt
Edwards, a principal pannist attached to Sagicor Exodus has
joined the list of musicians offering music dedicated to the
pan.
His
selection is titled Pan Energy sung by Kenny J (Kenneth
Joseph).
In
addition to the hearty lyrical material, Silver Stars Steel
Orchestra and St. James Tripolians put patrons in dance mode
with their instrumental sounds.
Daniell, who packaged the collection of songs under his
record label Major and Minor Production, said the CD was
launched earlier than usual citing the timing of Carnival
2008.
“Steelband leaders and arrangers would know what’s out there
and consider these songs for Panorama. This album will
therefore be of special significance to the big bands, since
I know it has the ingredients they want to win.”
Former Pan Kaiso Monarch De Fosto (Winston Scarborough) who
is not on the compilation delivered Puncernelly. That’s the
musical item he hopes conventional (large) steel orchestra
and reigning National Panorama champion Neal & Massy
Trinidad All Stars will take the song as its Panorama
tune-of-choice.
