Twenty-five-year-old Genelle Bharat was born and raised in the
wonderful community of Old St. Joseph Road, Laventille, Trinidad.
Her desire to perform has instilled in her a love for the steelpan,
singing, African drums and other percussive instruments, as well as
modeling. She has been playing the steelpan pan for seventeen years
and singing for eleven. 2017 was her third year composing pan songs and also the third time doing so for Laventille Serenaders Steel Orchestra - the band which had been supporting her in choosing her composition First Place as their selection for last year’s (2017’s) Panorama. In 2015 Laventille Serenaders played her first composition, Chords and placed 3rd in the small steel orchestra category in the National Panorama, while in 2016 the band also played her second composition, Pan Jumbie and placed 2nd. The 2018 Panorama season finds Genelle dipping her toe in another aspect - that of arranging. She is working with Xpress 21 Steel Orchestra, and interestingly enough is up against Laventille Serenaders in the small conventional steel orchestra category. |
