Keith “Keet Styla” Prescott
Since 1984, “Keet Styla” formerly known as “Designer” has been working with renowned panists and pan composers/arrangers such as Ken “Professor” Philmore, Ray Holman, Robert Greenidge and Earl Brooks - as well as musicians including Ralph McDonald, Monty Alexander, Frankie McIntosh, Leston Paul and Etienne Charles.
Some of the more popular songs resulting from these collaborations are: ‘Rati-ray,’ ‘Pan by Storm,’ ‘Jump with Me,’ ‘We Just Can’t Go On Like This,’ ‘Prophet of Pan’ and Celebration to name only a few. Currently “Keet Styla” is the leader/vocalist of The Therapi Band in New York City.
“Keet Styla” has already been heard from for the 2017 Panorama season with Girls From The Hill - and he returns, working alongside Ken Philmore on Panorama Soldiers.
Ken Philmore is from the island of Trinidad and Tobago, birthplace of the musical instrument, the steel pan. “Professor” is one of the top steel-drum soloists in the world. His fascination with the steel pan began when he was only four years old.
Ken has performed and recorded with a number of international artistes such as Tito Puente, Ella Fitzgerald, Phyllis Hyman, Nancy Wilson, Tina Turner, Ralph McDonald, George Howard, Lionel Hampton and Curtis Mayfield.
He was also the first Trinidadian Artiste to be featured at B.E.T. Jazz Central with the late icon Lou Rawls. To date, he has recorded over 8 albums, composed and co-composed numerous singles, made two world tours as a member of the renowned Duke Ellington Orchestra and has performed at many prestigious events and venues worldwide, such as The Royal Albert Hall in England, The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall and the Kennedy Centre, to name a few.
Ken has been composing and arranging for Panorama as far back as the early 80s both locally and abroad and still proudly admits that his “first love” is his dear steelpan.
