Single Pan Prelims Kick Off 2018 Steelband Panorama In Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - 2017 National Panorama Single Pan champ Newtown Playboys Steel Symphony, is the first Northern-Region band expected to perform before Pan Trinbago’s Adjudication Panel at the band’s Tragarete Road Pan Theatre, on the evening of Thursday, January 4.

Playing David Rudder’s “Hammer” arranged by Carlon “Panman” Harewood, the Newtown-based steelband is one of seven scheduled to perform their Panorama tune before the four-man panel.

The other single pan bands include D’Original Woodbrook Modernaires, Brimblers, Scrunters Pan Groove, La Creole Pan Groove, Ice Water Pan Ensemble and Nuttin’ Big Pan Groove.

These Northern Region bands begin the eight-day exercise in all regions for Single Pan Supremacy, the finals of which are carded for Sunday January 14, 2018. Sixteen finalists will be selected to compete at the Arima Basketball Court, Arima, east Trinidad. Cost of tickets is TT $100.00.

On Friday January 5, another seven North Region bands starting at 7:00 p.m. with Harlem Syncopators (#63 Quarry Street, East Dry River, Port-of-Spain) will go through their paces. They will be followed by Freelancers Pan Groove (Prince & Duncan Streets), Trinidad & Tobago Fire Service (Fire Service Station HQ, Wrightson Road), Sea Lots One Love (#21 A Beetham Highway, Sea Lots), D’Untouchables Pan Groove (#205 Pioneer Drive Sea Lots), Uni Stars (Old St. Joseph Road, Bertie Marshall Boulevard, Success Village, Laventille) and Spree Simon Harmonics (#Picton & Eastern Main Road, Laventille).

Come Saturday January 6, the final eight North Single Pan bands will be judged. Starting time for this group is 6:00 p.m. First off the block in this heat is Trinidad & Tobago Defence Force (Mail Road, Tucker Valley, Macqueripe, Chaguaramas) with All Aces (Hutton Road, St. Ann’s) bringing up the rear.

The other competing bands are Stardust (Point Cumana Govt. School, Fitzallen St., Pt. Cumana), Woodbrook Playboyz (#6 Blackman Drive, Lions Civic Centre, Woodbrook), La Famille United (#48 Cascade Road, Cascade), Nostrand Symphony (RAFA (Royal Air Forces Association), Queen’s Park East), Gonzales Sheikers (Basketball Court, Gonzales), and Belmont City Kids International (Belmont Community Centre, Jerningham Avenue, Belmont).

Continuing on Sunday 7 (2:00 p.m.) and Monday 8 January (7:00 p.m.), twenty-two bands in the East region will be judged. They will be followed by ten bands in South Central on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday January 10, respectively. Three Tobago bands will have their turn on Thursday 11. Starting time for these regions is 7:00 p.m. nightly.

Score sheets for all participating bands in the Single Pan Band category will be opened at Port-of-Spain City Hall Auditorium, Knox Street, Port-of-Spain, on Friday January 12, from 10:00 a.m.
