Vanessa Alexandra Headley
Vanessa Alexandra Headley was born into a musical family and started playing the Steelpan at the age of four. By age 12 she was afforded the opportunity to compose and arrange for her steelband Golden Hands, which was founded by her mother Franka Hills-Headley.
Vanessa has explored but not exhausted all the musical nuances of the Steelpan. As a soloist and ensemble member, composer and arranger she has won 85 championship trophies and awards, including placing first in the Caribbean in CSEC Music and being declared National Youth in the sphere of Arts and Culture in 2015.
After successfully arranging for her band for Junior Panorama for three years she was asked to arrange for Golden Hand’ first appearance in the National Panorama Small Band category in 2010. The band placed 2nd and were subsequent finalists in the years that followed.
In 2015 she became the first artist to compose, sing and arrange a Panorama song - Pan In D Galaxy. This allowed her band Golden Hands to emerge as finalists in the Small Band category of the National Panorama.
Her compositions (including Young And Free, Push! and Trouble), all written for Steelpan, truly reflect the musical versatility of the instrument. The latter, with Vanessa's arrangement brought championship honors for her band Golden Hands last year in the small conventional steel orchestra category for the 2018 National Panorama.
This year
Vanessa is back,
naturally, vocalizing her own composition
High, featured
here. It is the tune of
choice for Golden Hands
as the band moves to
defend its title in its
respective category.
