2023 Junior National Schools Panorama

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The Ministry of Education’s National Schools Panorama 2023 kicked off on Wednesday January 11 to melodious sounds. Hundreds of students at the primary and secondary school level matched skills on the pan and other musical instruments in the preliminary round of the competition. The steelband music match-up is hosted in collaboration with the Pan in Schools Coordinating Council and Pan Trinbago.

Education Minister, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, had the opportunity to visit one of the schools during the preliminary round and commented, “The future of our national instrument is alive and well, the passion and enthusiasm of these young people is infectious.”

After two weeks of intense competition, twenty schools - ten each at both levels - progress to the finals taking place Sunday January 22 at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain from 9:00 a.m.

Panists in these two categories will precede ten 21 and Under/Non-schools steel orchestras - also finalists in their grouping – this one organized by Pan Trinbago.

The last time these three categories came together in competition was in 2020. Then, Guaico Presbyterian and Bishop Anstey & Trinity College East (B.A.T.C.E.) topped the primary and secondary levels, respectively, while Trinidad All Stars Youth Steel Orchestra triumphed in the 21 and Under division.

Following are: the ten primary schools in the finals; preliminary results and ten finalists at the secondary level, and; full preliminary results and the final ten 21 and Under bands moving forward:

Editor’s note: 3 Bands, which placed 11th, and in a tie at 12th position, were subsequently added by Pan Trinbago on January 20 to the finals, increasing from ten to thirteen - the number of finalists in the 21 and Under category.
