Last
week When Steel
Talks traveled to the beautiful island of Antigua, to
observe the sixth annual Moods of Pan Festival. The four-day
steelpan music event was promoted and hosted by Antigua & Barbuda's
Gemonites steel orchestra. The event brought together major musical
heavy weights from all over the world. Gemonites get four stars for
overall organization and professionalism making the festival a truly
world-class event.
If you are involved in steelpan music in any shape or
form, this festival was the place to be.
If you are an educator,
historian, entrepreneur, manufacturer, player, enthusiast, tourist or just
networking we strongly recommend that you start making plans to be in
Antigua for next year's festival.
When
Steel Talks was extremely pleased with what we saw, heard and
experienced at the Moods of Pan festival. In this regard we extend
our thanks and appreciation to Gemonites for allowing

unfettered access to musicians, and program officials. A special
thanks to New York's Women In Steel for having us chronicle their entire
stay and performances on the island, and facilitating our observance of
the event from the band's perspective. And to all the musicians and
behind-the-scenes - people thank you for all your help and
camaraderie. We were extremely impressed...
Last but not least
When Steel Talks
extends a sincere thanks to the government and people of Antigua for your
genuine warmth, friendliness and love that you showed us and for the
steelpan movement.
