Antigua -  Clearly an Antiguan specialty, the 5-Alive competition is pure entertainment:  part J'Ouvert, part Ole Mas and part Panorama.  The event combines comedy,  theater, drama, musicianship and musical story telling into a unique blend of pan performances.   The large crowd clearly enjoyed themselves.  There is nothing like this anywhere else in the world.

This year 5-Alive 2003 winners Musical Youth, successfully defended their title, with Bacchanal coming second and newcomer Women In Steel coming third out of a field of seven.

The biggest little steelband competition in the world – “Keep Pan Alive with Five.”  This competition, now more affectionately known as “Five-Alive” gives good entertainment value for money and is guaranteed to be action-packed.

Five-Alive rules are kept simple: five members perform a five-minute arrangement of the music of a specially selected artiste or group being honored that year.   For 2004 the music of the featured group belonged to none other than Antigua's own Burning Flames.   Out of a total of 100 points the criteria allow only 70 points maximum for musical quality while the other, often controversial, 30 points are awarded for performance and crowd response.
