Saint Lucia 2024 National Panorama - Order of Appearance
Saint Lucia, W.I. - SM Steel
out of Canaries is first up in the music throwdown that is Saint
Lucia’s annual steelband Panorama competition coming off July 7.
The five steel orchestras competing on the national stage
‘pulled’ for their playing positions on the morning of Thursday
June 27 during the Vaval Central program on Radio Caribbean
International.

music and limbo dancing
The Steelers, Treviglas Academy’s steel drum band, perform.
Cornwall, England - Schoolchildren from across Cornwall honoured the 76th
anniversary of the
Windrush generation by immersing themselves
in theatre, music and food from the Caribbean.
.....The Steelers, Treviglas Academy’s steel drum band, played a
repertoire ranging from Harry Belafonte to Bruno Mars, while a
rendition of Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off had everyone singing to
register on the Richter scale.
Music teacher Steve Mildenhall has been leading the band for 22
years.

Junior Panorama 2024 gets $40,000 injection from VINLEC

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Electricity Services Ltd – VINLEC
handed over a cheque of XCD $40,000 (USD $14,800.84) to the
Youlou Pan Movement towards Junior Panorama 2024.
The event took place on the evening of June 18 at VINLEC’s Headquarters
at Paul’s Avenue.

Saint Lucia’s inaugural National Schools Pan Festival unfolded
on a sunny Saturday June 8 afternoon at the SAB, Vigie in the
country’s capital of Castries. It was part of the calendar of
events for Lucian Carnival 2024.
Popular Saint Lucian pan soloist Chazz, and SMC (St. Mary’s
College) Masqueraders—a group of young male dancers—got the
energy flowing, even before the official opening with the
playing of the nation’s anthem.

Saint Lucia’s Inaugural National Schools Pan Festival 2024
set for June 8
Castries, Saint Lucia, W.I. -
Seven schools will perform in this year’s inaugural National
Schools Pan Festival scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June
8, 2024, at the SAB, Vigie, Castries.
The Pan Festival forms part of the activities for Junior Carnival and was
developed by the CPMC (Carnival Planning & Management Committee) in an effort to
ensure the sustainability of the rich cultural aspects of Lucian Carnival such
as Steel Pan. The National Schools Pan Festival also promotes the involvement of
all students and Schools across the island have an opportunity to be a part of
Carnival celebrations.

wrong”
Metaverse - Facebook got it
wrong. About three years ago without warning or reason all WST
(When Steel Talks) steelpan-related accounts fell out of favor
with the social media giant Facebook now known as Meta and its
aligned consortiums (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Because
WST has all of our material hosted on our own shared servers,
this ‘tag’ was not incurable or as problematic as it could have
been. However, it was annoying to have people seeking critical
steelpan music info diverted by Facebook AI (artificial
intelligence).

steelpan instrument of Trinidad and Tobago is featured and celebrated on the
site of technology giant “Google” via the famed Google ‘Doodle.’ The ‘Doodle’
is essentially an illustrative change made to the Google corporate logo “to
celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers,
and scientists” - and more. The doodle is then seen by users all around the
world who access Google’s homepage on that day, and is available thereafter
in the doodle archives.
....Trinidad and Tobago-based artist Nicholas Huggins is the creator of the
illustrative artwork featured in the doodle, while
Etienne Charles is the composer
of the accompanying music performed by the legendary steelpan icon
