Castries, Saint Lucia, W.I. - SM Steel out of Canaries is first up in the music throwdown that is Saint Lucia’s annual steelband Panorama competition coming off July 7. The five steel orchestras competing on the national stage ‘pulled’ for their playing positions on the morning of Thursday June 27 during the Vaval Central program on Radio Caribbean International.
The SAB in Vigie, Castries is the venue once more, where the event is expected to get underway at 7:00 p.m. The reigning champion Babonneau Steel Orchestra aims for its eighth title, while four challengers are equally determined to dethrone the band.
Along with their order of appearance, the following data includes the bands’ respective tunes, arrangers and - where available - bios, for the 2024 competition.
The country’s younger generation of steelpan musicians had their turn to shine earlier in the month at the inaugural National Schools Pan Festival.
