Babonneau Steel Orchestra - 2024 Saint Lucia Panorama champions
Castries, Saint Lucia, W.I. - Yet another night of triumph is in the country’s national history books, as Babonneau Steel Orchestra, teamed with champion arranger Allison Marquis, more than passed musical muster in the 2024 Panorama competition. It is the music organization’s eighth Panorama title, and its sixth consecutive musical triumph in that arena.
Five steel orchestras competed at the SAB, Vigie, in Castries where steelband music lovers were prepared with umbrellas for the pouring rain, which was an element during the evening. But after months of practice, nothing was going to dampen either the spirits of the steelpan musicians, or their supporters.
SM (Can Beats) Steel, Laborie Steel Pan, Pantime Steel Orchestra, and Pantastic Muzik Steel Orchestra were all also in musical contention for the championship. Pantastic Muzik garnered second place with Krystal Nestor, the lone female arranger in the Panorama. Pantime turned to Terrance “BJ” Marcelle as arranger in 2024, and were judged third.
After hours of the July 7 competition which got underway after 8:00 p.m., results were in by 11:45 p.m.
