2018 Panorama Info Complete
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - The sounds of steel will resonate at the Basketball Court, Princess Royal Park, Arima, east Trinidad on Sunday January 14, as twenty Single Pan Bands vie for pan music supremacy in their category. These were selected from the original fifty-three bands which competed in the preliminaries, from the Northern, Eastern, South Central and Tobago regions.
With the amended theme “Steel Crescendo... an Explosion of Music and Rivalry,” this year’s Panorama competition, the 55th edition, will be the culmination of eight days of preliminary judging at the respective participants’ pan yards across Trinidad & Tobago.
The finalists were announced on Friday morning at The Murchison Brown Auditorium, Knox Street, Port-of-Spain. Later that day, the bands’ representatives drew for playing position at Pan Trinbago’s Head Office.
Woodbrook Playboyz topped the Preliminary round with 278 points for the Michelle Huggins-Watt’s arrangement of “Ah Want It’ composed by Johnston King, whilst defending champions Newtown Playboys Steel Ensemble amassed 270 points in a three-way tie with Pan Fanatics and Uni Stars in eighth position.
For Sunday’s competition the adjudication panel will comprise Vorbin Cordice, Dr. Audley Timothy, Brendon Moore, Joslynne Sealey, Dexter Asson and Cuthbert Matthews. Bands will be judged on the basis of Arrangement (40), General Performance (40), Tone (10) and Rhythm (10) points.
